A pre-Christmas run out for the under 8s on a beautiful, bright, but bitterly cold Sunday morning wiped all manner of cobwebs from any bleary-eyed Villan parents – and ensured the boys kept running hard during during a friendly with our compatriots from Hangleton !

This was another fine game, with a number of cracking goals, including some superb shooting from the Montpelier lads and a couple of excellent team goals from a neat & composed Hangleton team.

Special mention must go to Tom’s Beckham like chip from his own half, which flew into the net without even bouncing, quality stuff ! Louis and Charlie also capped strong performances with excellent taken goals, the former slaloming his way through to bury the ball in the net, the latter producing an outside of the foot beauty in the top corner, not to mention also floating in a direct free kick!

Also noteworthy was Angus, who put on a tremendous display of actual goal keeping, with the art of staying near your team’s goal and using your hands for saving the ball demonstrated well ! Sure Chris can develop his Neuer ‘sweeper keeper’ role, but hats off to him for a fine and brave display.

New boys Seb & Wilbur played really well, full of running and composure. The Villa are building a strong squad now, in readiness for the move to 7 a-side games next season. Some fine dribbling skills were also shown by Theo, George I and Sonny, who all netted quality goals, as ever.

cool shadesTeam work aplenty was also on display – Rhys, George B, Paddy, Stan and Spike worked well within their teams to ensure that the Villa worked well collectively. What was most pleasing was the spirit in which the game was played, with enthusiastic smiles showing that a winter break makes them keener than ever to get out onto the hallowed Falmer turf!

Finally, well done to Mark Walker (dad of Charlie) for a firm but fair refereeing display, not a hint of bias and much better shades than Pierluigi Collina!
