With 40 minutes of the 1st half played the scoreline was still at 0-0. Despite total domination chances were coming and going and one wondered whether it was going to be one of those awful days when the ball just would not go in the net. Indeed, had it not been for stand in keeper Adam Byrom pulling off an excellent save to deny the Opposition striker when through one on one in the 35th minute, it could have been a very different afternoon that followed.
However anxiety was settled just before the break thanks to two wonderfully struck free-kicks, firstly from Aaron Blackwell from the left and then from Tod Brennan from the right. Ironic really that the goals should come from dead balls when the Villa open play had been so good.
Of course this then settled everyone down and the goals then began to come at regular intervals throughout the second period. This was to include a hatrick for MOM Tod Brennan along with an OG and debut first team goals for Matteo Meli and Trevor Wilson.
It's been a tough season for the Visitors but to their credit they never gave up and maintained their discipline throughout. As for the Villa, an excellent reaction and performance to Tuesday's disappointment at Rottingdean.
