Sussex Sunday Youth Div 3 Match Report: Montpelier Villa Blue 10 Premier United 2
Date: September 20, 2016
The Villa boys maintained their excellent start to the season with, in the end a comfortable 10-2 victory against Seaford side, Premier United. After a see saw first half that saw both sides take the lead and then lose it, the teams went into break locked together at 2-2. James continued his scoring run, finding space in the penalty area before firing the ball into the right hand corner of the Premier goal to give Villa the lead. Marcel then levelled the scores from close range after Premier hit back with two goals on the break. the first saw the powerful winger surge literally through Rudy and Patrick before squeezing the ball under an on rushing Alfie in the Villa goal. The second came from a similar quick break, this time through the middle of the pitch, culminating in premier scoring from close range.
While the scores were level Villas performance had been the more attacking and creative, gradually coping with the physical challenges of playing a bigger side, creating a number of excellent chances to score more goals. Villa did hit the bar and both posts, after great shots from Marcel and Vinnie. Felix and Lucas were also unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after excellent saves by the Premier keeper. They also created a number of other excellent goal scoring opportunities only to be denied by a combination of good saves from the Premier keeper and some wayward finishing by the home side.
As it was last Sunday, the second half saw Villa improve their play in the final third and with it their composure in front of goal. Scoring like last week eight unanswered goals against a team that started brightly but in the end were simply overwhelmed by a rampant Villa performance.
The goals were spread across the team this week ( seven different goal scorers) with Marcel completing his hatrick with two second half goals, the third, a quite brilliant strike from way out wide on the left, which zipped through the air before arcing high into the top right corner of the Premier goal.
Noah continued where he left off last week, creating a number of goals for others before demonstrating some excellent finishing of his own, the second, a sumptuous feint and chip over the keeper after creating space with some nice skills inside the penalty box. Vinnie was rewarded for his efforts and the disappointment of hitting the bar and seeing his second half penalty tipped over the crossbar. Finally scoring with a powerful low drive from the left, that cannoned off the inside of the far post and into the goal following a weaving run across the box.
Defenders Baptiste and Elliot got on the score sheet in the second half with two cool and clinical finishes from inside a very crowded penalty area from corners only minutes apart. Tom completed the goal scorers with a lovely finish after being played in down the right, beating a defender and then firing home with precision.
Once again the Villa defence showed that they can both defend and provide the launch pad for our attacking play. It was another pleasing day for a team that is in the process of developing, with many positives and lots of room to improve and grow as the boys and season progresses.
This week we are away to Ferring Youth, details to be provided once confirmed.
